Both crewmen of a Hungarian ambulance were injured Wednesday afternoon when the unit collided with an elk (or deer?) in Zalaegerszeg, Zala County.
The collision caused extensive damage to the ambulance and caused it to drive into a ditch with the beast hanging out of the windshield where it was partly inside.
The ambulance did not have a patient on board at the time. The driver suffered serious head injuries and the medic in the front seat had less severe injuries..
Forestry officials estimated the animal to be about 4 years old and weighing 150 kg (330 lbs.). It was euthanized on the spot.
