Firefighters in Fayette County, Tennessee were handling a brush fire on I-40 Monday night when their rig was struck. A man in the striking vehicle was killed and two firefighters were critically hurt.

The Braden volunteer firefighters working the fatal accident Monday night showed up just minutes after three of their own came close to losing their lives. Two of the firefighters are in critical condition.
The pumper truck protected the men who were found lying on the ground next to it after a Ford truck pulling a trailer left the east bound lane and ran into the median crashing into the Braden fire truck.
The truck was parked as three firefighters put out a grass fire.
